In the Beginning . . .
Hello my name is Caroline A Reynolds and this is my story… or at least the beginning of it.
I have always loved to draw, when I was little I could sit for hours practicing just one shape. I remember when I was four watching my older sister draw, in two confident motions, a perfect heart. I sat there and marveled at being a perfect, 6 year old artist. So I tried drawing a heart… in two big strokes. No, it was not a good heart. the right side was bigger and rounder and the left was small and sharp like a triangle. I looked at the paper very frustrated and determined to practice until my heart looked as perfect as my sister’s heart looked.
How long have I been this way? For as long as I can remember.
Fast forward to middle school when I started being told I was a “natural” at art, or “very talented.” Well I actually don’t believe that. I’ve just had a strong desire to create, draw, and design, and I’ve practiced so now I am “good at art”. I truly believe that we all are given a gift or talent in an area and that hopefully that gift is equally matched with desire to do “it” and that’s what people see as “natural talent.” But as Malcolm Gladwell says, you still need 10,000 hours to reach Mastery.
And now after a hiatus of about 8 years, “trying” to operate outside of my passion and natural skill set, I am pursuing the endeavor that I have always known in my heart is my calling. Now I am pursuing it with the passion and determination I had when I was four trying to draw a perfect heart.
I am a creator.
I am an artist, athlete, designer, maker, fixer, doer, believer and hugger (which is not Kosher in this current Covid-time). I am my best when I am building, painting, sketching, laughing, helping, and encouraging someone. I am at my worst when I have no purpose, or when the purpose that I am following is not mine, but someone else's, a stolen purpose. I love to make things look pretty, whether it’s through painting a canvas, trying my hand at interior design by making rooms beautiful and comfortable, or even going a little over the top in setting a table for a dinner with family.
This is my story, I hope you enjoy hearing it. I hope that my story gives you the courage to go and put all your passion into your story, the one you truly know is yours, not a stolen purpose.
Bring some beauty into your world today.
